Today I begin a month-long series of summer workshops in essay and poetry that I hope will focus me for my thesis year. The above quote by poet Toi Derricotte expresses why I write and what I hope to do with that master of fine arts degree I allegedly can’t do anything with. I want my writing to help guide readers to new revelations, speak the unspeakable, and heal deeply shadowed wounds by using various literary forms to connect history, spirituality, and critical analysis of the present, and to interweave these connections with autobiography. It’s a mission taking me to international destinations this summer, and you’re invited.
